Frequently Asked Questions

Why start therapy?

The therapeutic process encourages you to go deeper than what's on the surface and dive deeper into your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Therapy often functions as a safe space for feelings you don't feel comfortable voicing anywhere else, and processing them with an understanding ally at your side. It is a safe space for you on your terms.

How will I know if we're a good fit?

Therapy, above all, is a relationship between two people. To gauge if you and I are a good match, I offer a free 15-minute consultation call where we discuss your concerns and where I can answer any questions you have about me. Ultimately, I aim to be someone who you feel safe with and heard by.

How long will I be in therapy?

Time in therapy differs from person to person depending on what they're seeking to work on. Most clients are seen weekly, with the option of biweekly sessions after the first few sessions, for about 50 minutes per session.

Where will we meet?

I primarily offer sessions via telehealth on a HIPAA-secure platform, but also offer limited availability in-person in Babylon, NY.

Do you take insurance? Do you offer self-pay?

Yes! I am in network with most major insurance carriers including Aetna, Cigna, BCBS, Carelon, Optum, UnitedHealthCare/Oxford, NYCE PPO, and some other smaller plans. I do not take Medicare or Medicaid at this time.

For those out-of-network, a 50-minute session is $140 with a sliding scale available based on financial need.

Areas of Expertise

Cancer

I started my career as an oncology social worker providing counseling services to people with all types of cancer, from the day of diagnosis throughout their entire journey. This illness is an equal opportunity offender that brings up our biggest fears around mortality and what we're living for.

Chronic Illnesses

Many people with chronic illness spend months or even years trying to get the right doctor to listen to them--and to really see their suffering. My work is to allow you the right to acknowledge your pain, empower you to be your own best advocate, and find ways to accept your illness while managing your life.

Caregivers

Whether it be cancer, chronic illness, or old age, we all need a helping hand when we're ailing. Caring for an ailing loved one brings with it a lot of complicated feelings that you probably feel guilty for having. My work here is to help you embrace the oxygen mask metaphor: helping yourself so you can most effectively help the people you love.

Grief

In life, we all lose something--a loved one, a dream, abilities we once had--and we all deserve to be seen in our grief. For the grieving person, my aim is create a safe space where you can process the loss in whatever manner it comes. There is no timetable or linear through line of accepting loss and incorporating it into your life.

Mood Disorders

Today, depression and anxiety are at all-time highs. Even if these experiences are common, it does not mean their impact is insignificant. Together, I will do my best to guide you to a reduction in symptoms, to challenge unhelpful thoughts, and to help create resilience and acceptance of what is beyond our control.
